Many of you will have heard this before….SMART goal setting. It is used in everything from business to fitness. And it does make sense, you should have a goal that is:
Specific (know exactly what it is that you want to achieve)
Measurable (how are you going to measure your progress?)
Attainable (It should be within your reach)
Realistic (Work out what is realistic be it muscle growth or weight loss)
Timescale (give yourself a timescale for it to happen, break it into smaller weekly or monthly goals)
More important than any of this is WHY you want to achieve it.
Really think about this…..is it to look good on holiday? is it to fit into your wedding dress? to be able to move freely without pain?
This is the reason that you drag yourself to the gym after a long day at work, the reason you get out of bed at 6am when its cold, dark and raining to go for a run.
It is your motivation.
Write down what you want to achieve, now this is the important bit…..write how you will feel when you achieve it.
What do you look like? What does it feel like? What are people saying?
THAT is why you are doing it.
Give it a go!
